The maze for this test is designed to a distinctive Y-shape. Using this type of shape as a maze allows for more stable measurements in each subject. There are two types of software available; for a single subject or for dual subjects. The software includes a navigation function, which provides for a fully automated experiment. The experimenter only needs to place the subject in the start position assigned by the software. Using the offline analysis, the criteria for whether the subjects entered or left each arm can be modified, which provides an advantageous use of the Y-maze software.
